Your Biggest Threat Is Not Your Competitor. It Is Your Own Fear.
Here is something that will reframe everything you think about business risk.
Your competitor is not your biggest threat. The economy is not your biggest threat. The market is not your biggest threat. Technology is not your biggest threat. Supply chains are not your biggest threat.
Your biggest threat is sitting right between your ears. It is your own fear.
2 Timothy 1:7 says it plainly. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
Notice what Paul does not say. He does not say fear is natural. He does not say fear is just part of being human. He does not say fear is something you just have to live with. He says fear is a spirit. And it is not from God.
Fear is not from God. It never has been. It never will be.
Think about that. Every time you make a decision from fear, you are making a decision from something that is not from God. Every time you hold back because you are afraid, you are operating from something that is opposed to God's nature. Every time you play it safe because you are scared, you are letting something that is not from God drive your business.
This is the opposite of how the world operates. The world says fear is wisdom. The world says fear is just being careful. The world says fear is what keeps you safe. The world says fear is what prevents you from making stupid decisions.
That is a lie.
Fear is not wisdom. Fear is the enemy of wisdom. Fear does not keep you safe. Fear keeps you small. Fear does not prevent stupid decisions. Fear prevents any decisions. Fear does not protect your business. Fear shrinks your business.
Fear makes you compromise. It makes you settle. It makes you play it safe. It makes you hide. It makes you keep your head down. It makes you follow the crowd. It makes you do what everyone else is doing because it feels safer than doing what God is telling you to do.
And that is exactly what the enemy wants. He wants you afraid. Because a fearful leader is a useless leader. A fearful leader does not take risks. A fearful leader does not step out in faith. A fearful leader does not build anything significant. A fearful leader just survives. And survival is not what you were called to.
You were called to power. Not fear. You were called to love. Not fear. You were called to a sound mind. Not fear. You were called to build. To lead. To risk. To trust. To step out. To do what everyone else thinks is crazy because God told you to do it.
Think about every great leader in the Bible. They all faced impossible odds. They all had every reason to be afraid. And they all stepped out anyway. Not because they were not afraid. Because they trusted God more than they feared the outcome.
That is what you are called to. Not the absence of fear. The presence of faith. Not a life without risk. A life with God in the middle of the risk.
So stop letting fear drive your business. Stop making decisions because you are afraid of what might happen. Stop shrinking back because you are scared of the outcome. Stop playing it safe because you are terrified of failure.
God has not given you a spirit of fear. He has given you power. Use it. He has given you love. Walk in it. He has given you a sound mind. Think clearly.
And step out. Because your biggest threat is not your competitor. It is your own fear.
