Your Business Is Not Yours. You Are Just Managing It For God.
Here is something that will change everything about how you run your business.
It is not yours.
I know that sounds offensive. I know you built it. I know you sacrificed for it. I know you poured your blood, sweat, and tears into it. I know you have the loans, the leases, and the liability to prove it is yours.
But it is not.
You are just managing it for God.
1 Corinthians 4:2 says it plainly. "Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful."
Notice what it does not say. It does not say those who have built something must protect it. It does not say those who own something must grow it. It does not say those who have sacrificed must hold onto it.
It says those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.
You have been entrusted with something. Not given ownership. Entrusted. There is a difference. Ownership means you can do whatever you want with it. Entrustment means you are responsible to the One who gave it to you.
This is the opposite of how the world operates. The world says you built it, you earned it, you own it, you deserve it. The world says it is yours to do with as you please. The world says your success is your achievement and your failure is your fault.
That is not what God says. God says everything you have is a gift from Him. Your skills. Your opportunities. Your relationships. Your resources. Your business. All of it. Given to you. Entrusted to you. Not because you earned it. Because He chose to give it to you.
And here is the hard question. What are you doing with what you have been given? Are you treating it like it is yours? Or like it is His?
Most business leaders treat their businesses like they own them. They make decisions based on what they want. They protect what they have built. They hoard what they have accumulated. They spend on themselves. They plan for their own future. They build their own kingdom.
And they call it success.
But God calls it something else. Faithlessness.
Because if it is His, then you do not get to do whatever you want with it. You have to do what He wants with it. If it is His, then you do not get to hoard it. You have to steward it. If it is His, then you do not get to spend it on yourself. You have to spend it on what matters to Him.
This changes everything.
It changes how you spend. It changes how you hire. It changes how you treat your employees. It changes how you price your products. It changes how you serve your customers. It changes how you give. It changes how you plan. It changes how you lead.
Because you are not building your kingdom. You are building His. And the only question that matters at the end of the day is not how much you made. It is how faithful you were with what He gave you.
Here is the thing about stewardship. It frees you. When you realize it is not yours, you stop worrying so much. You stop protecting so tightly. You stop clutching so desperately. You start trusting the One who owns it. You start using what you have been given for what He wants. You start giving freely because it was never yours to begin with.
And that is freedom.
So stop acting like your business is yours. It is not. You are just managing it for God. And the only thing He asks is that you prove faithful with what He has entrusted to you.
